Calico Night 04:06
The strangers on the street tonight Are bathing in the setting light And the colours streak across the sky With the promise of a calico night And my bloodshot eyes The real sign of a sailor's delight The buzzards fill the sky But they're not danger From such great heights We skim along the ocean tide They come and go We take their ride Keep your eye on the prize 'cause everyone will tell You got to take a side And it goes, it goes And on and on, and off again You can't pretend it never happened It never happened to you
2.
Lampshade 03:31
The lampshade is torn It spills light on the table But we mask it together And my hands are so dry That they cracked in the cold But we brave the weather And a man who don't know me says "Write me a song" About something or other I can't quite remember But he wants something funny Not candid or strange Just tell him a story To sell to his friends Who burst through the door With champagne and shattered glass Mi amore, j'adores, j'adores Let's fill up our closets With jackets and dresses For formal occasions Like funerals and shows And it's high time we did this The bags have grown restless They're filled to the brim Feel your hair on my skin...

Pink Guitar 03:14
Come home to me Lay a towel on the door Join me in bed Leave your clothes on the floor... And count all the hairs Turning white in my beard Believe in our love More Than Anything You've Feared The sound of the rain And all the passing cars Like the out of tune chords On my pink guitar... And the cadence of my voice Like your brushstrokes on the canvas And that look in your eye That lets me know we can handle this.

She'll be sleeping in the other room If she can leave behind her sense of doom And the planes are flying overhead Reminding you of all the books you never read And the bamboo's sprouting like a rocket ship She couldn't find sleep so she bites on your lip And the sweat rolls down between your chests And the dangling conversation that was never laid to rest And the doctor is asking you Have you ever thought about it? Would you ever follow through? The sculpture that was never fired You could sleep for days, you feel so tired And think on all the photographs How far back did they stop collecting laughs? Open wide, let's take a look. Scrape off the plaque and sacrifice the rook The pawns in forward toward their death But don't you get too close with your dark-roast coffee-breath And the doctor's asking you... Have you ever thought about it? Would you ever follow through? They came and went and they took your steed The jokes on them. They could have had it for free That horse was dying anyway So go what come and come what may... The money tree died, but it's coming back You could have been the same, but you show through the cracks If you ever come around to find There's always fools with gold that you can mine And the doctor's asking you... Have you ever thought about it? Would you ever follow through? The sun is rising over the shore It hasn't lit yet what you've got in store It's not too late to find the path Nothing can be worst than your mind's own wrath You'd be sleeping in the other room If you could leave behind your sense of doom.

Birds 04:48
If I had the words I wouldn't be sitting here writing them down I'd be singing with the birds From the tallest tree around But I'm tangled in the wires Instead of soaring with the highest flyers And I watch the pistons push them far away... If I had the space I'd dance circles 'round and 'round Spinning smiles upon your face Fall as confetti to the ground But I'm trapped between the layers Clinging desperate to my hopes and prayers And I listen to the footsteps overhead... If I had the time I'd live every scene forever And I'd be yours as you are mine Becoming all the things we never... Wondered if they ever could be true From the oldest grain right on through the new And I'd watch the misty mountains turn to sand... And if I had my way I'd leave it all and watch you go Above the rain to see the day Shining bright on through the snow But I'm mangled in the mires Stuck between new ideals and old desires And I watch the blue grow darker every day... And I watch the misty mountains turn to sand As I listen to the footsteps over head And I watch the pistons push them far away From this place.

about

The five songs contained on this new EP serve more like a five-act play, charting like a one-man movie through a landscape of broken dreams, celebrating hope where none exists, celebrating love when its shimmering allure has long since faded.

about

Erik Bleich Toronto, Ontario

Seeking to find a place between what can sometimes feel like opposing worlds, singer/songwriter Erik Bleich creates street-lit lullabies & manic, rambling romps that wander the side streets between rural isolation and metropolitan congestion.
